ABOUT ME, BAL

Since I was a young girl, I always had an artistic flair and a passion to apply my creativity at every opportunity. I grew up in England and moved over to Canada when I got married. As the years went on, I decided to embark on a make-up course and pursue my artistic nature. I took course after course in different parts of the world and developed a sense of belief that I could help people.

My experience includes working as a skin camouflagist for the Red Cross, Changing Faces, Catwalk, Magazine and Television work. I eventually moved back to England and set up my own mobile Make-Up, Hair & Beauty company. I started building up a portfolio of clients and business was going really good. I made the all important move to carry on the business in a little shop on Narborough Road in Leicester. I remember the everlasting task of deciding on a company name - but then out of the blue, my brother in law came up with 'Silk Powder'. It was perfect! I am very much a family kind of person and love having everyone involved. My daughters even helped to chose the font of my new company name.

Silk Powder was doing really well and after a period of time, we made the decision to move to the gorgeous Stoneygate Shopping Centre of Leicester. It just complemented the type of company I ran as many of the shops were niche, independent and family run. The business was doing really well and we ended up moving across the road to a double fronted shop so that we could expand our services to include other offerings within beauty therapy.

Following COVID-19, we changed our business model to a pop-up style salon, with a permanent base in Ansty. Accordinglyyou will find Silk Powder offering its services in various locations, in and around the Midlands.

People often ask me what my favourite part of the job is - my answer is always 'making people smile'.

I hope to see you soon  - Bal Gill
